This mason jar can't be used for canning or retaining, but it's wonderful for storing dry just rights. The lid isn't a screw cap, and isn't the two-piece canning lid and screw ring. The cap is a one-piece steel that slides on prime. So to remove, just carry it off. It's held in situation by a translucent white rubber/silicon seal that rings around the jar opening. Also, it is a non-standard size opening that is greater than a wide mouth mason jar.

I use my jar to carry spaghetti*. The cap can close all of the method if the spaghetti is placed immediately in the jar. In my case, I positioned an unopened box and two plastic wrapped packs of spaghetti. The cap shuts 80% of the way in which, however not sufficient to seal. Ball manufactures its canning and holding jars in the USA. Every Ball jar I have ever purchased has "Made in USA" embossed on the glass. I naively purchased some of these gallon "Ball" jars and found on the beneathside that it mentioned "Made in China" because of this that it's now not made by Ball. It's made with the support of a Chinese company that faces no environmental or worker-protection laws, which is why I do not buy the rest made in China until there's no other option. You should buy gallon jars made in the US, and that's what I'm going to do. This 125th Anniversary Chinese gallon jar, I'm going to throw within the garbage.

Buyer------It's a good jar but take into account that this just isn't the collector's model. The decorative jar is lighter in weight and the ball emblem shouldn't be as defined. I even have both.
